How do you make your business user-first?

UrbanDigs provides comprehensive housing info to buyers and agents in the scary and seemingly-anything-goes real estate market of Manhattan. Their website was built specifically for desktop. Loaded with super-technical data, it was not user-friendly for buyers nor practical for agents who spend much of their days going from listing to listing.

UrbanDigs wanted an app, but their ideal app experience was unknown. We began by interviewing them to fully grasp their challenges and wishlist. Once we understood their needs, we began by creating ideal user flows to accomplish the most important tasks and then expanded the functionality to cover an entire mobile experience.

We boiled down the app’s mission into two parts. One, give buyers the power to make informed decisions. And two, help agents be more proactive by keeping all communications and resources straightforward and in-app. Next step: turn ideas into actual wireframes.

For the most complex graphical features, we went old-school with hand-drawn illustrations. No better way to break down big, abstract concepts than putting a pen to paper. Cocktail napkin is optional.

The challenge in creating a user-friendly app from a great big pool of data is all about deciding what is actually necessary. We built the app with a curated set of resources and functions, so both buyers and agents have what they need out on the street. But at the end of the day, they can check in on the website at their desktop for more in-depth and less-frequently used features.

“The team at Propoint organized the process from start to finish and invited us to be a part of the conversation at every level. It was truly a collaborative process. We couldn’t be happier with the overall design and usability.”

Noah Rosenblatt, Founder of UrbanDigs

How it all turned out

With the new app, first-time buyers now have all the info to act like seasoned pros and agents can manage multiple properties, clients and resources all in one place from their phones. Manhattan real estate may continue its insanity, but those involved now have an easier time holding on for dear life.
