4 Tips to Keep Your Audience Engaged
You’ve been there. You’re sitting in a conference room chair, trying not to nod off while someone at a podium takes you through a series of wordy slides dripping with special effects. Or maybe the presenter is just reading through their slide deck word-for-word. It can be excruciating to sit through, and afterward you’re never quite sure what they were trying to communicate.
When slides are overworked, key messages often get lost in the chaos. While significant amounts of text and animation might provide the illusion of great substance, in reality they make very little impact on whether or not the message resonates with your audience. Often, they are so distracting that listeners simply “tune out” instead of absorbing and digesting the content.
Using a few simple guidelines that keep the focus on your message rather than your slides, you can avoid slide fatigue and the “glazed audience effect,” and you’ll never again have to worry about your audience sneaking a catnap!
